Budgies live on average 8-10 years if they are kept in the right environment and receive the right care and attention.
A proper balanced diet of a good quality budgie mix seed, daily fresh water and a clean cage are the basics.
The bird cage should be thoroughly cleaned at least twice a week.
To keep your birds healthy you will also need to give them some veg and fruit at least twice a week.
Carrots, broccoli, spinach are all very good for them. Lettuce not sprayed with pesticides in small quantities also.
They love dandelion leaves that grow wild, which are also good for them.
Apples, pears, Kiwi, strawberries, bananas, oranges, peaches and grapes.
They also like millet spray, which you can give as a treat once or twice a week.
They need cuttlefish bone, iodine, and mineral blocks constantly in their cage also.
Grit should be available also as it helps them digest their food.
Sandpaper on the bottom of their cage is good for keeping their nails trimmed.
Remember to act quickly if your birds are not acting normal, like off their food or water and sleeping a lot. These are clear indications that your bird is not well. Please do not hesitate to bring your birds to the vet if you suspect they are not well. Please do not contact me with any health issues regarding your birds as I am not an expert on bird health and you should go immediately to your local avian vet.
